| Barbara Allen has
worked as an artist since 1968, in painting,
clay, and metal. Throughout the various mediums,
she is always fascinated by color, line and
texture.
Bending
and shaping wire lets me play, and some of my
best work evolves from this playful exercise.
My love of color is satisfied by the use of
stones and beads in my work as well as the color
of the metals. I find myself wanting to simplify
-- shape as well as process; cold connections
as opposed to soldering.
Most of her work to date has been in silver,
both fabricated and forged. Lately, she uses
more copper, brass, and gold and combines these
metals with silver, PMC, porcelain and beads.
Inspired by Alexander Calder's wirework, she
is now working on a series of animals and circus
performers.
